UK Local Government, working with NCC Group, faced growing ransomware risk after a 2020 attack on a Local Authority exposed vulnerabilities across the sector. With Covid-19 increasing the pressure to keep citizen services running, the customer needed a faster way to understand its security posture and reduce exposure across multiple local authority organisations.

NCC Group delivered a 14-week Remediate programme that combined self-assessment workshops, cyber threat actor emulation, and modular remediation across seven security and resilience themes. The result was a major reduction in ransomware risk: all critical and high risks related to backup vulnerability and broader susceptibility were brought down to a controllable level, 236 remediation modules were delivered, and each organisation received a long-term security improvement plan.
