Case Study: National Grid achieves secure cloud continuity and uninterrupted access to critical applications with NCC Group's Escrow as a Service

National Grid, a major investor‑owned energy company operating interconnectors between the UK and continental Europe, launched a bespoke cloud‑hosted Regional Nomination Platform (RNP) to manage cross‑border transmission capacities and nominations. Faced with the risk of losing access to critical application data — which could cause non‑compliance, fines and service disruption — National Grid engaged NCC Group to protect business continuity for this strategic cloud application.

NCC Group implemented its Escrow as a Service (EaaS) solution, establishing an EaaS Access Agreement to receive administrative credentials (updated from the supplier up to four times a year) and performing an EaaS Architecture Verification to capture source code, environment blueprints and technical documentation. As a result, National Grid now holds verified documentation and access credentials in escrow, ensuring it can regain control of the RNP, minimise downtime and maintain regulatory compliance if the supplier becomes unavailable.
