The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) operates National Rail Enquiries and a Live Sales Management (LSM) system that issues over one billion tickets a year and handles around £2bn in annual sales. Concerned about the risk of relying on a third‑party SaaS integrator (KCOM on AWS) for this mission‑critical service, ATOC engaged NCC Group for a cloud disaster recovery and business continuity review using NCC Group’s SaaS Operational Verification / SaaS Assured approach.
NCC Group’s consultant audited KCOM’s redeployment and recovery processes, documented every step, secured the AWS CloudFormation templates in escrow and produced a detailed recovery handbook. NCC Group’s work gives ATOC independent assurance that a complete copy of the LSM environment can be recreated and put into immediate use if a release event occurs, materially reducing operational risk and ensuring continuity for the service that supports 1bn+ tickets and £2bn in sales.
