Vermessung Schubert brings BIM to an Austrian landmark

Vermessung Schubert, a surveying company, was faced with the challenge of creating an as-built BIM model for Vienna's historic Gumpendorfer Straße metro station. The original 1898 paper plans were outdated, and the large, complex, and public environment made traditional laser scanning too time-consuming and difficult. To overcome this, they used the NavVis Indoor Mobile Mapping System (IMMS).

The solution from NavVis enabled the Vermessung Schubert team to capture the entire station in just six hours, a process up to ten times faster than before. The resulting data was used for BIM modeling and also published in the NavVis IndoorViewer for easy client access. This browser-based visual walkthrough was key to winning the project and made the building data accessible to all stakeholders, not just those with specialized software. NavVis technology also automated dataset alignment, significantly reducing post-processing time.
