Surveying firm Terra Measurement blazed a new trail by using NavVis VLX mobile mapping system for a top-quality topographic land survey

Terra Measurement, a surveying firm, won a tender to conduct a high-accuracy topographic survey of the historically sensitive Dudley Castle site. Their initial plan for a traditional survey was upended when the project started six weeks late, leaving them only a few weeks to complete a job originally quoted for 40 days before vegetation and public visitors made data capture impossible. They turned to the NavVis VLX mobile mapping system from vendor NavVis to meet this time crunch without sacrificing quality.

Using the NavVis VLX, Terra Measurement captured the entire 44.7-hectare area in just two days, a fraction of the projected time. A rigorous test proved the resulting point cloud data was of sub-10mm accuracy, meeting the high standards required for their virtual survey workflow. The solution from NavVis enabled the team to complete the survey before the site reopened to the public and has since become a regular tool for the firm on suitable land survey projects.
