Siemens Electronics Works Amberg (EWA) faced the challenge of managing a fast-evolving production facility. Its teams needed accurate, up-to-date data for tasks like assembly line relocation and supplier tendering, while also conducting over 400 annual factory tours that were limited by safety and logistical constraints. To address this, Siemens partnered with vendor NavVis to create a digital twin of their factory.

The solution used was the NavVis Digital Factory Solution, which included the NavVis M6 Mobile Mapping System to capture the entire 10,000 sqm facility in a single day. The resulting digital twin in NavVis IVION enabled virtual assembly line planning, eliminating the need for travel and speeding up relocation projects. It also enhanced factory tours by allowing virtual zoom-ins on specific machinery. The measurable impact included significant travel cost reductions and the potential to replace 15-20% of on-site tours with virtual ones. NavVis also facilitated the integration of live IoT data into the digital model.
