Nonprofit Network Provider OSHEAN Partners up for Affordable, Scalable Cloud Services

OSHEAN is a nonprofit network services collaborative in Rhode Island that operates a 400Gbps-capable Beacon 2.0 fiber network serving about 150 colleges, hospitals, schools, libraries and government agencies. When members began requesting cloud services that would seamlessly extend their existing VMware environments, OSHEAN found that building its own enterprise-scale cloud would be prohibitively expensive and hard to scale, so it sought a VMware-based partner to deliver disaster recovery, hybrid architectures, and rapid service deployment.

OSHEAN partnered with NaviSite, a VMware vCloud Air Network provider, integrating Beacon 2.0 with NaviCloud Director to offer a virtual private cloud and a suite of services (IaaS, virtual desktops, storage, disaster recovery, managed hosting and applications). The partnership avoided large capital and operating costs, enabled multitenant and hybrid architectures on a common VMware platform, delivered strong SLAs, security and compliance, and let members quickly and affordably access cloud services while maintaining compatibility with their existing environments.
