Navisite Partners with Friends Without A Border to Support Mission-Critical EMR System for Lao Friends Hospital for Children

Friends Without A Border operates the Lao Friends Hospital for Children (LFHC), which opened in 2015 and treated nearly 20,000 children in its first year and now sees more than 100 children daily. As LFHC expanded from an outpatient clinic to include inpatient, emergency, neonatal, surgical and specialty services, the hospital needed to move from paper records to an electronic medical record (EMR) system—but faced budget constraints, a remote location in Luang Prabang, and limited local technical expertise for a UNIX‑based solution.

Friends Without A Border implemented the Bahmni EMR in late 2019, and in early 2020 Navisite began providing remote managed infrastructure and 24x7 support for the Bahmni application, ERP, laboratory systems and the hospital’s MySQL and Postgres databases. Navisite delivered monitoring, failover, training and ongoing maintenance (keeping downtime to single‑digit hours), enabling reliable EMR access for clinicians, smoother workflows and improved patient care.
