How Sanoma turned around the Tijdschrift.nl brand and returned to growth with Naviga Commerce

Sanoma Media Netherlands, part of Sanoma Group, needed to fix its Tijdschrift.nl app, which gave readers access to 75 Dutch publications but was limited to iOS, unstable, and offered only PDF replicas. Negative reviews and frequent crashes led to dissatisfied users and lost subscribers, so Sanoma needed a better way to improve reader experience and drive growth.

Naviga Commerce implemented a White-label Newsstands solution with multi-publication apps for iOS and Android plus a Web reader, integrating with Sanoma’s Gigya identity service and later its content APIs for a consistent library experience. Naviga added advanced features like Text mode, single issue purchases, and Explore free articles, and delivered the project in 8 weeks. The results included app store ratings rising from below 2★ to 4.3★, unique monthly active users growing by 120%, and stronger mobile marketing capabilities.
