Valero Energy Corporation, a major energy refiner and marketer, faced a challenge in keeping its vast library of policies and procedures accessible, orderly, and accurate across its large Port Arthur refinery. They needed a cost-effective system to manage these documents and ensure compliance with safety standards. To meet this need, they implemented the PolicyTech policy management software from vendor NAVEX.

The NAVEX solution provided a centralized, web-based system for organizing procedures with automated review and approval workflows. It used employee network IDs to control access and track document readings for compliance reporting. The results included improved safety awareness and maintained production, as employees could quickly access the procedures they needed. The solution was so successful that it was adopted by eight of Valero's refineries.
