A Natural Apptitude Case Study
The customer, Yorkshire Water, along with a consortium of wildlife trusts and government bodies, faced the significant environmental and economic challenge posed by invasive non-native species (INNS) in the UK. They needed a quick and easy method for a wide range of users, including the public, to report sightings and management of these species to better coordinate efforts. The vendor, Natural Apptitude, was engaged to develop a solution.
Natural Apptitude created the INNS Mapper app and website, which replaced an earlier project and expanded to cover both aquatic and terrestrial animals. The solution introduced new features like recording routes and non-occurrences, and it allows for data verification by citizen scientists. This easy-to-use tool plays a vital role in minimizing the impact of invasive species by helping to identify, verify, and report them, ultimately supporting more effective and coordinated management across large regions.
