We Are Sikhs organizes to tell the American Sikh community's story

We Are Sikhs, a grassroots initiative led by Gurwin Singh Ahuja, set out to correct widespread misperceptions of the Sikh community after the 2012 Oak Creek shooting. Lacking an organized infrastructure, We Are Sikhs selected NationBuilder to build their website and organizer platform so they could rapidly mobilize supporters, capture data, and run fundraising and outreach from a single place.

Using NationBuilder to power WeAreSikhs.org, the campaign raised over $1 million, generated 92 million impressions, secured coverage in 500+ media articles, and produced a 25% increase in favorable views of Sikhs in a Fresno poll; the effort also won a PR Week award. NationBuilder’s integrated tools for donations, email lists, events, and content management let the small team scale outreach and fundraising efficiently while sustaining ongoing advocacy and partnerships.
