Case Study: Mothers Out Front achieves scaled mom leadership and climate policy wins with NationBuilder

Mothers Out Front empowers local leaders to fight climate change across the U.S.

Mothers Out Front is a grassroots nonprofit of mothers organizing locally across the U.S. to fight the climate crisis. Their challenge was scaling leadership and moving supporters up the ladder of engagement to win state- and local-level campaigns; they relied on NationBuilder as their digital infrastructure, using features like paths and built‑in action pages to equip local leaders and coordinate outreach.

NationBuilder provided a one‑stop platform and training (led internally since 2017) to identify top leaders, run national leadership academies (200+ attendees), launch petitions and text outreach, and track RSVPs and follow-ups. As a result, Mothers Out Front elevated 115 new moms to leadership in 2021 (growing to ~500 leaders), collected 800 petition signatures and 250 new sign‑ups from a Massachusetts petition that helped secure a major climate bill, supported electric bus wins in Virginia, and helped defeat the Danskammer permit—outcomes driven by NationBuilder‑powered organizing.
