Lone Star Veterans Association harnessed community for hurricane relief

Lone Star Veterans Association used NationBuilder to turn a post‑Harvey text outreach into a rapid, large‑scale search, rescue, and relief effort for the Houston community they serve. Facing the immediate challenge of contacting and assessing thousands of members, coordinating volunteers and rescue teams, and managing evolving recovery needs while their normal fundraising channels were disrupted, LSVA needed a platform to centralize outreach and case management.

Using NationBuilder’s platform — text blasts, social‑contact sync, shared profiles, mapping/turfing, tagging and centralized notes — Lone Star Veterans Association ran an impromptu call center (about 150 calls/day at a 90% response rate), contacted more than 9,000 people, deployed over 200 volunteers, completed roughly 60 rescues and nearly 300 muck‑outs, and logged about 5,200 volunteer hours. NationBuilder enabled rapid outreach, volunteer coordination and ongoing recovery casework, producing clear, measurable impact across the veteran and civilian communities they supported.
