LAHSA mobilizes citizens where it counts

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) needed a reliable way to mobilize and manage volunteers for its annual, countywide census of people experiencing homelessness. Using NationBuilder to track, recruit, train, and deploy volunteers, LAHSA organized a community of roughly 7,500 volunteers to capture accurate, human-centered data across Los Angeles County.

NationBuilder’s platform enabled LAHSA to achieve 100% coverage of LA County—over three nights volunteers counted more than 4,000 square miles and 2,160 census tracts—leading to measurable outcomes, including a 30–40% decrease in homelessness for veterans and an 18–20% decrease for families since 2015. By streamlining coordination and data collection with NationBuilder, LAHSA translated better information into targeted action and demonstrated that reducing homelessness is achievable.
