Case Study: European Greens achieve pan-European grassroots mobilization and secure a single-use plastics ban with NationBuilder

A NationBuilder Case Study

Preview of the European Greens Case Study

How European Greens created a network for change-makers

The European Greens, a federation of 44 member parties representing roughly 10 million voters in the European Parliament, needed a coordinated, cross-border way to mobilize grassroots supporters after earlier volunteer efforts failed to scale. They worked with NationBuilder, using its platform and tools (including email A/B testing and campaign management) to launch Tilt!, a pan‑European change‑makers network for petitions, rapid responses, and coordinated advocacy.

NationBuilder powered Tilt! to run 19 campaigns since its May launch, translated communications into 15 languages, and drove hundreds of personalized letters overnight in a carbon‑emissions action; that sustained organizing contributed to a 571–53 European Parliament vote in favor of a single‑use plastics ban. NationBuilder’s tools increased engagement, press visibility, and cross‑border mobilization, positioning the European Greens for a more rigorous 2019 campaign cycle.
