Case Study: Citizens UK achieves personalised, nationwide community organising with NationBuilder

A NationBuilder Case Study

Preview of the Citizens UK Case Study

Developing a new digital infrastructure for Citizens UK

Citizens UK, the home of community organising in the United Kingdom, faced the challenge of building a distributed digital infrastructure to mobilise local groups, personalise supporter journeys, and coordinate large-scale responses such as the Syrian refugee resettlement campaign ahead of the 2015 General Election. They partnered with NationBuilder to create a national website and backend that could deliver hyperlocal engagement while tracking and growing supporter involvement.

NationBuilder implemented a NationBuilder-powered site with personalised homepage content driven by supporter actions, a bespoke action map and live activity stream integrating mobile app and database inputs, localized news streams for distributed leadership, and in-person training for staff. The result was measurable: the platform helped capture widespread support — 18,492 people had taken action in 2014 — increased visibility of regional activity, and enabled Citizens UK to scale and sustain grassroots organising through the NationBuilder infrastructure.
