Case Study: GreenPAC shifts Canada’s federal election to a ‘climate election’ with NationBuilder

A NationBuilder Case Study

Preview of the GreenPAC Case Study

100 Debates on the Environment shifted the focus of Canada’s federal election

GreenPAC, a nonpartisan environmental organization, faced the challenge of nationalizing climate conversation across dozens of ridings in the 2019 federal election by staging simultaneous local debates. To coordinate hundreds of candidates, organizers and attendees and to make the environment an unavoidable campaign issue, GreenPAC built the project on the NationBuilder platform, using its action-focused website and event functionality to create a centralized hub for the campaign.

Using NationBuilder, GreenPAC launched 100debates.ca and created over 100 branded event pages with map search, postal-code RSVPs and integrated supporter tracking, while training 100+ local organizers via webinars and toolkits. The campaign resulted in 104 debates, 400+ candidates participating and 16,000+ attendees (many events drawing 100–500 people), helped make the 2019 campaign a “climate election,” and produced a searchable set of candidate responses and volunteer leads NationBuilder-enabled to support ongoing accountability and organizing.
