Worldwide Standardization of Semiconductor Characterization Test at Melexis

Melexis GmbH, a global supplier of microelectronic semiconductors for the automotive industry, faced the challenge of standardizing its global validation test strategy. The company needed to improve test consistency, coverage, and the quality of statistical analysis across its international sites to decrease time to market and improve overall product quality. Their previous setup of disparate benchtop instruments from different suppliers was inefficient and lacked standardization.

To address this, Melexis implemented a solution with National Instruments (NI), adopting the NI PXI platform. The solution included standardized PXI systems with LabVIEW software and the establishment of a global "PXI champion" program to maintain best practices. This resulted in higher measurement accuracy, reduced setup time, and a dramatic increase in test throughput, allowing them to characterize dozens of samples instead of just ten. This improved the quality of their statistical analysis and enabled pre-series testing, significantly reducing their time to market.
