Using LabVIEW and PXI for an Automated Test Bench for High-Resolution Audio Test

Dolphin Integration, a designer of mixed-signal microelectronic components, faced the challenge of creating an automated test bench for qualifying its high-resolution audio codecs. The challenge was to replace a slow manual process, as the immense number of required tests and configurations made manual intervention impractical for both productivity and measurement quality. They turned to vendor National Instruments for a solution.

National Instruments provided a solution based on its PXI modular instrumentation, including a switching matrix, sound and vibration module, and an FPGA module programmed with LabVIEW. This automated system handled signal multiplexing, generation, acquisition, and component control. The solution from National Instruments reduced test time per circuit from 6-8 hours to under 10 minutes, dramatically increasing productivity and ensuring high-quality, consistent measurements.
