Oil Well Fracture Pump Monitoring and Analysis Using LabVIEW and NI RIO Technology

Lime Instruments, LLC needed to build a rugged, advanced monitoring system that could be mounted directly onto oil well fracturing pumps. Their challenge was to create a system capable of surviving harsh environments while performing complex analysis on sensor data to detect issues like momentary pressure spikes and vibrations.

The vendor, National Instruments, provided a solution using NI CompactRIO and NI Single-Board RIO hardware along with LabVIEW software. This technology allowed Lime Instruments to develop the system significantly faster than with traditional programming, reducing a typical two-year development cycle to just a couple of months. This accelerated time to market allowed them to capitalize on their competitors' lag time. The resulting system effectively monitors pump parameters and transmits data to a main console, helping to reduce pump failures and maintenance costs.
