Microsoft Uses NI LabVIEW and PXI Modular Instruments to Develop Production Test System for Xbox 360 Controllers

Microsoft, the customer, needed to develop a comprehensive, low-cost production test system for its Xbox 360 wired and wireless controllers. The challenge involved verifying the functional performance and signal integrity of the new controllers to ensure a high-quality user experience.

The vendor, National Instruments, provided a solution using a flexible, automated test system based on NI LabVIEW software and NI PXI modular instruments. This system enabled Microsoft to run over 100 tests in parallel, resulting in a 100 percent increase in test throughput per station. All test data was stored to a Microsoft SQL Server for analysis. The National Instruments platform provided a versatile, low-cost, and high-performance solution for both validation and production.
