LM-STAR NI Software-Based Test System Saves Millions

Lockheed Martin STS faced the challenge of delivering a test system for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, a contract worth $200 billion to support manufacturing, screening, and depot testing for more than 3,000 aircraft. To meet this demand, they needed a solution that could be standardized across numerous suppliers.

National Instruments provided the software foundation for the solution, the LM-STAR test system, built on NI TestStand and LabWindows/CVI. This open, COTS-based architecture facilitated rapid development, prevented obsolescence, and enabled multiple suppliers to work simultaneously. The National Instruments solution saved the U.S. government millions of dollars, with the potential for hundreds of millions more in savings over the life of the program.
