Developing a Transmitter Control Unit for a Radar Application

The NATO Support Agency (NSPA) faced the challenge of architecting, developing, and testing a replacement transmitter control unit for a radar modulator within a strict 12-month deadline. The project's budget was threatened when the original commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution doubled in price due to component obsolescence, risking major delays.

National Instruments provided the solution with its R Series and FlexRIO hardware and LabVIEW FPGA software. This reconfigurable platform enabled NSPA to rapidly develop a robust control unit in-house, significantly reducing development time. The National Instruments solution led to a total project cost reduction of more than 50 percent and provided the flexibility for easy future upgrades and in-field support.
