Creating an Automated Microcontroller Test System Using LabVIEW and FPGA

Infineon Technologies faced the challenge of integrating and automating its complete microcontroller testing workflow. Their previous in-house test benches were difficult to navigate, required separate toolchains, and needed additional test equipment, making the process inefficient. To overcome this, they partnered with National Instruments.

Using National Instruments products, including LabVIEW and the LabVIEW FPGA Module, Infineon created an unmanned test bench with an intuitive interface. This single, automated solution replaced multiple setups and was used to test various microcontroller peripherals. The results were significant, reducing the time to execute a set of tests from four-to-five hours down to just 10-to-15 minutes, which saved considerable effort and money while considerably improving test quality.
