Creating a Universal Test System Based on LabVIEW for Stryker Medical Devices

Genuen, a systems integrator and National Instruments partner, worked with medical device manufacturer Stryker Instruments to overcome the challenge of creating a flexible and scalable life-cycle and durability tester. Stryker's existing test platform had a limited channel count and could not handle the company's new goals or accommodate a wide range of new medical products for design and verification testing. They needed a next-generation testing platform.

The solution designed by Genuen was the "Totally Reconfigurable Universal System Tester" (TRUST), a high-channel-count platform built using NI LabVIEW software and the NI CompactDAQ hardware. They also created a modular software framework called "Test Regulation Over Networks" to enhance integration. This resulted in a system that runs tests 20% faster, can handle an unlimited number of test scripts, and increased throughput by 100%. Furthermore, the new framework reduced future test system software development time by an estimated 50 percent.
