Automated Testing of Hardware-Dependent AUTOSAR MCAL software

NXP Semiconductors, a provider of software for microcontrollers, faced the challenge of developing an automated testing system for its hardware-dependent AUTOSAR MCAL software. The company needed a solution that avoided a large, specialized hardware investment and the ongoing cost of continuous upgrades to meet evolving product and test requirements.

The vendor, National Instruments, provided a solution using its NI R Series multifunction RIO modules and the LabVIEW FPGA Module. This combination created a test system with custom, reconfigurable functionality, offering flexibility and scalability. The NI PXI-based system, combined with custom parts, allowed NXP to cost-effectively automate its testing, eliminating human error and reducing maintenance costs while being prepared for future requirements.
