How AI-based predictive maintenance solutions from Nanoprecise helped the Fishing Vessel Northwestern prevent catastrophic failure at sea

The Fishing Vessel Northwestern, a commercial crab fishing boat operating in dangerous Alaskan seas, faced the immense challenge of preventing catastrophic equipment failure while at sea, where major maintenance is impossible. Dockside repairs in remote locations were also logistically difficult. To avoid operational failures, the crew partnered with vendor Nanoprecise Sci Corp and its distributor, Atlas Reliability, LLC, to adopt a predictive maintenance approach, focusing on their critical propulsion system and reduction gearbox.

Nanoprecise implemented its Machine-Doctor wireless sensors and AI-based RotationLF analytics platform to monitor the vessel's machinery. The solution successfully detected an unbalance condition in the reduction gearbox, alerting the crew who were then able to reduce RPMs to mitigate the issue until a full inspection could be scheduled. This accurate diagnostic from Nanoprecise enabled immediate action, preventing a potential catastrophic failure and increasing the overall reliability of the vessel.
