PepsiCo faced the challenge of keeping bottles and other packaging out of landfills and making recycling simple and rewarding for consumers. To tackle this, PepsiCo partnered with Nanonation to deploy the Dream Machine, a network of smart recycling stations that assess recyclability by scanning barcodes and inform users about material type and value.

Nanonation’s Dream Machines maintain a large product database, allow users to scan packages to learn recyclability, and reward participation with points or cash vouchers. Since launch, Nanonation’s solution has deployed over 300 Dream Machines and kept more than six million items out of landfills, demonstrating measurable diversion and consumer engagement.
