A Nanonation Case Study
The Nebraska Tourism Commision runs a statewide Passport Program to encourage visitors and locals to discover museums, parks, restaurants and other attractions, but had struggled with prior digital tools and limited cellular service in rural areas. To modernize the experience, Nanonation designed the 2018 Passport app with improved navigation, category search and mapping so users could find nearby stops and track which locations they had stamped.
Nanonation’s solution added location-aware stamping (including temporary offline stamps that convert to permanent when service returns), push notifications for stop updates, and a map view that differentiates visited versus unvisited stops. The results were tangible: combining 49,000 requested paper passports and the mobile app, participants submitted over 221,000 stamps from 46 states and 418 Nebraska communities; the app was downloaded 8,100 times and accounted for roughly one-third of submitted stamps, and program staff reported much higher user satisfaction.
