Bump, Set, Spike. Nanonation Serves an Interactive Volleyball Game

The Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation wanted a more immersive, interactive experience for its volleyball exhibit that honored inductees while fitting the existing court-themed space. Nanonation partnered with the Foundation to deliver a gesture-based, multi-player game using Microsoft Kinect and the exhibit’s projector, building on an earlier Nanonation digital timeline installed in 2015.

Nanonation implemented a 2D volleyball game where players control avatars (with superimposed faces or jerseys of Hall of Famers) by walking, jumping and raising hands to set, spike and serve; between volleys the system displays inductee profiles and volleyball facts. The installation increased visitor engagement and learning by blending play with education, earning praise from Executive Director Chuck Johnston—“I think this is the best experience yet from Nanonation.”
