Drugs & Diagnostics for Tropical Diseases scales Loa loa LFAs to 50,000 test strips with Nanocomposix

Drugs & Diagnostics for Tropical Diseases (ddtd), a non-profit focused on treatments for neglected tropical diseases, needed to develop a highly sensitive lateral flow assay (LFA) to detect the Loa loa parasite. They partnered with the vendor Nanocomposix to utilize its gold nanoshells as a novel detection particle to improve the assay's performance.

Nanocomposix implemented a three-stage manufacturing process for the LFA test strips, beginning with protocol transfer and small batch production. This was followed by verification using engineering lots and culminated in the full-scale manufacturing of 50,000 test strips across three validation lots. The solution provided by Nanocomposix resulted in a highly sensitive diagnostic that is now undergoing evaluation in Africa and other parts of the world.
