NAKIVO Saves Science Communication Agency 60% of Time on Backup Monitoring

Genius is a German science communication agency with offices in Darmstadt and Berlin and an IT estate of 3 physical servers and 17 VMs that host critical customer-facing web applications. Maintaining reliable VM backups was essential to avoid data loss and reputational damage, but the company’s heterogeneous, agent-based backup tools were not built for virtualized environments—resulting in fragmented monitoring, frequent manual interventions, limited recovery points, and a desire for a centralized, OS-agnostic solution that would shorten backup windows.

Genius deployed NAKIVO Backup & Replication on a Synology NAS, gaining a single web interface, reduced network overhead, and efficient incremental backups via VMware CBT plus global deduplication. The change enabled nightly full infrastructure backups, increased retention (at least 14 recovery points for key VMs), and freed hypervisor resources—cutting time spent on backup monitoring and maintenance by 60% and allowing the IT team to improve recovery strategies and regularly test VM restores.
