NAKIVO Backup & Replication on NAS Increases VM Backup Performance by 2.5X for a Private School

GRACE Christian School, a K–12 private school in Raleigh, NC, needed a reliable, fast VM backup solution to protect Active Directory, management systems, and other critical servers across three campus locations. Their previous script-based process was slow (taking 6–10 hours for jobs), labor-intensive, and required someone onsite for recoveries, creating operational risk and limited visibility into backup health.

By deploying NAKIVO Backup & Replication on a Synology NAS, the school gained an easy-to-use appliance that eliminated the need for a dedicated backup server, automated reporting and alerts, and implemented GFS retention for efficient storage. Backup performance improved by about 2.5x (their largest 3 TB server now backs up in ~4 hours versus ~10 hours before), critical servers can be recovered in ~20 minutes, and admin time dropped from roughly two hours a week to about 15 minutes.
