KPN Switches to NAKIVO and Saves One Hour Every Day

KPN, a Dutch telecommunications and ICT service provider, needed to modernize backups for its Managed Networking department—which supports the networks of top corporate customers across three sites and roughly 150 virtual machines. After virtualizing its servers, the company found tape backups were too slow, costly, and no longer fit for VM protection, creating a need for a VM-aware solution that delivered fast, reliable backups and near‑instant recovery to ensure continuous availability.

KPN deployed NAKIVO Backup & Replication, which was easy to install and provided full and incremental VM backups, global deduplication, and Instant VM/File Recovery to Dell storage. The change reduced backup windows (55 daily incremental backups now take about five hours), reclaimed storage, removed tape management, and delivered faster restores—freeing at least one hour of operational time per day while improving overall backup reliability.
