Case Study: Watch Communications achieves rapid incident detection and remote response with Nagios

A Nagios Case Study

Preview of the Watch Communications Case Study

Watch Communications stays connected with custom Nagios solutions

Watch Communications, a fixed‑wireless provider serving more than 10,000 customers across Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois, needed monitoring that went beyond simple up/down SNMP checks to capture metrics like connection counts, signal strength, routing peer states, temperatures, and battery status. To gain actionable, programmable monitoring and custom alerting, Watch Communications implemented Nagios’ monitoring platform and its extensible plugin framework.

Nagios deployed a customized solution using its open‑source plugins and bespoke alerting tools to monitor over 2,500 devices and 8,800 device services at roughly 2‑minute intervals. Nagios’ implementation—including custom SMS response scripts—let Watch Communications detect power, connection, environmental issues and theft within minutes, acknowledge and handle alerts remotely, and rapidly integrate acquired networks, materially improving incident detection and response.
