A Nagios Case Study
Market Communication System (MCS) is a data center and hosting provider that had outgrown manual monitoring as its services and platforms multiplied. MCS, a long-time reseller of Nagios, needed automated, detailed visibility (disk, CPU, RAM, bandwidth) and reliable 24/7 alerts to on-call technicians — including notifications that would still work if their SAN hosting the monitoring server failed.
MCS deployed a Nagios Core server and then migrated to Nagios XI, using custom checks and multi‑tenancy so customers could view only their own services. Nagios enabled tiered notifications (email for minor issues, text for production outages) to reduce alarm fatigue, improved proactive capacity planning as customers now monitor usage and request upgrades before interruptions, and restored reliable technician alerts even in SAN failure scenarios.
