A Nagios Case Study
EverWatch Global, an outsourced IT management and consulting firm, was asked to monitor an online store for a billion‑dollar e‑commerce retailer but faced a remote data center more than 500 miles away, multiple environments (production, QA, staging, development), strict firewall restrictions, and a flood of ignored alerts. To solve this, EverWatch Global implemented Nagios (using Nagios Core deployed via automated configuration management) to protect cart/checkout functionality, check for website defamation, and improve notification handling.
Nagios implemented SSH firewall rules for NOC access, web‑page analysis for defamation, converted existing messages into Nagios alerts and escalations, and added event handlers that restart services (resolving ~90% of issues); Nagios Core workers were deployed per application and configurations were centrally maintained and pushed automatically. The Nagios solution dramatically cut notifications and false positives, eliminated manual configuration changes, and raised uptime from ~85% to over 98% annually — contributing to improved operations and, per the case study, nearly $125,000,000 in additional sales.
