Zillow.com Deploys MySQL Cluster for High Growth with High Availability

Zillow.com is an online real estate community launched in 2006 that quickly grew into one of the most-visited property sites, combining Zestimate home valuations with community data and Q&A. Rapid traffic and expanding data needs created a challenge: the company needed a low-latency, highly reliable web database that could scale horizontally to handle massive, real-time workloads without costly hardware.

Zillow deployed MySQL Cluster as a high-availability, low-latency transactional database on inexpensive hardware, using MySQL’s replication and clustering for linear scale-out and relying on MySQL professional services for prototyping and capacity planning. The solution supports over 4 million unique monthly visitors, delivers high availability and throughput, enabled smooth, cost-effective growth, and is being evaluated for additional applications.
