Viasuisse Provides High Availability, Real-Time Traffic Information with MySQL Cluster

Viasuisse AG, Switzerland’s leading traffic information service, needed a simple, phone‑based way for customers to retrieve real‑time traffic updates using voice recognition. As a paid, multilingual (German, French, Italian) service that must run 24/7, the project required seamless integration with multiple data sources, high availability, and the ability to scale to roughly one million calls in the first year.

Viasuisse deployed MySQL Cluster for a fault‑tolerant, in‑memory database and EXCELSIS’s Insonic speech platform, hosted at Swisscom, then load‑tested and virtualized the environment with VMware. The solution delivered high performance and failover, handled spikes (up to 30,000 calls/day and 120,000 calls/week during a flood), and now provides a cost‑effective, highly available service used by thousands of travelers daily.
