Tema Networks Selects MySQL Embedded Server to Power its Real Time Mobile Billing Solution

Tema Networks is a Finland-based specialist in billing and Value Added Services for mobile operators, building customized solutions on its Tema Telecom Platform. Faced with saturated mobile markets and growing demand for Fixed Mobile Convergence and fixed‑line replacement, operators needed a way to offer competitive home‑use mobile pricing without eroding revenue—so Tema developed a location‑aware Home Zone Billing (HZB) solution to apply variable tariffs based on subscriber location.

To meet strict real‑time, throughput and availability requirements across five geographically distributed sites, Tema embedded MySQL Embedded Server 5.1 into the HZB architecture, achieving millisecond response times and around 1,000 queries per second. The deployment accelerated time‑to‑market, reduced database TCO and saved the operator nearly €1 million versus proprietary options, while enabling new revenue streams and higher ARPU for a leading operator serving some 90 million subscribers.
