Sharecat Enables Oil and Gas Supply Chain Management with MySQL Enterprise Edition

Sharecat is a Norway‑based provider of SaaS supply‑chain management solutions for oil and gas operators, with offices in the UK, Australia and the US. Its web applications deliver large, continuously updated manufacturers’ equipment catalogs and 18 years of validated asset data, and the company needed an enterprise‑class database to provide fast, reliable access, replace an outgrown Microsoft Access backend, and keep total cost of ownership low.

Sharecat evaluated several options and chose MySQL Enterprise Edition for its performance, scalability and cost savings (reducing database TCO by about 90% versus Microsoft SQL Server). Running in a virtualized Windows environment, the deployment uses MySQL Replication for high availability and read scaling, a mix of InnoDB/MyISAM today with plans to move to InnoDB on MySQL 5.6, and MySQL Enterprise Monitor/Backup plus Oracle support—delivering a stable, high‑performance, cost‑effective platform that serves its global clients and positions the company for a potential move to public cloud.
