Case Study: School of Everything achieves a scalable, low-cost cloud web infrastructure with MySQL

A MySQL Case Study

School of Everything’s Powerful Web Infrastructure Relies on MySQL

School of Everything is a London-based startup (launched 2008) that connects people who want to learn with people who want to teach. As a bootstrapped social-learning site with global users and award recognition, the team needed a low-cost, easy-to-administer web infrastructure that could rapidly match learners and tutors by skill and location and scale as demand grew.

They built the site with Drupal on MySQL and deployed it to Amazon EC2, enabling a rapid (one-month) rollout and elastic capacity. Using MySQL replication and cloud instances allowed quick scale-up and cost savings, and the team is planning further optimizations (MySQL Proxy and Enterprise tools) to improve performance and management as they grow.
