Pricer Increases Retailer Efficiency with MySQL

Pricer is the world leader in Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) systems, with over 3,100 installations and more than 43 million labels deployed worldwide, serving retailers like Carrefour, Ito-Yokado and Metro. Facing a highly price‑sensitive retail market and demanding use cases (rapid, frequent price changes, stock and space management), Pricer needed an embedded backend database able to store shelf and back‑office data and scale to handle large batches—specifically 500,000 updates within 30 minutes—while remaining stable and low‑maintenance for its customers.

Pricer selected MySQL for its speed, stability and ease of administration; MySQL Embedded met the performance and scaling requirements and has run in Pricer’s systems since 2003 with only minor adjustments. The result is a reliable, low‑administration backend that supports rapid, large‑scale ESL updates and lets retailers focus on operations and pricing strategies rather than database management.
