MySQL Enterprise Brings HighAvailability and Reliability to Advanced E-Learning System

The University of Duisburg‑Essen (UDE) is a two‑campus university in Germany’s Rhine‑Ruhr region with about 31,000 students and 4,300 staff. As part of a regional alliance, UDE was tasked with building a joint e‑learning platform to track compulsory courses across partner institutions, requiring a high‑performance, highly available database to manage hundreds of course offerings and user records.

UDE deployed Moodle backed by MySQL and purchased MySQL Enterprise Unlimited, using replication for reliability and the MySQL Enterprise Monitor for proactive health and replication checks. The solution centralizes student, teacher and course data for hundreds of online courses, improves availability and backup, and gives the web team access to 24x7 expertise and support for unlimited MySQL servers.
