Danfoss selects Sun’s MySQL database to power its large-scale air conditioning system AKM

Danfoss, a leading Danish industrial company specializing in refrigeration, air conditioning and related controls, needed to scale its AKM (Adap-Kool Monitoring) application so multiple users could share monitoring and alarm data for large commercial refrigeration systems. The existing Betriever database limited AKM to a single user and struggled to handle the high volume of daily queries without compromising performance or reliability.

Danfoss migrated AKM’s data layer to MySQL Embedded Server (via an OEM agreement with Sun), using an AK32 module to mediate queries between the application and the embedded database. The change enabled unlimited concurrent users, improved reliability and performance, and gave Danfoss source-code access and vendor support that sped debugging and simplified future development.
