Case Study: CASPUR achieves scalable, high-performance, reliable bioinformatics data access with MySQL Enterprise

A MySQL Case Study

Preview of the Caspur Case Study

Caspur relies on MySQL Enterprise to support its scientific research

CASPUR is an Italian non-profit inter‑university consortium and one of the region’s leading supercomputing centers, supporting research across genomics, proteomics, microarrays and next‑generation sequencing. It needed a high‑performance, highly reliable and remotely accessible system that would give researchers fast, scalable access to biological databases and scientific applications via Web services.

CASPUR implemented MySQL Enterprise with a redundant, sharded master/slave architecture and a MySQL Monitor/Query Analyzer subscription to track reliability and optimize queries. The solution scales from a few masters to 2–10 masters and 10–100 back‑end slaves, handles dataflows from a 2,048‑core cluster, and delivers improved performance, monitoring and remote access for bioinformatics workloads.
