A MySQL Case Study
Cashpoint is an online betting and gaming company founded in 1996 and a market leader in several EU countries (including Germany and Austria), operating thousands of terminals, betting offices and an online platform. Its legacy Sybase database could no longer meet growing demands for stability, reliability and performance, so Cashpoint sought a low‑administration, highly available database solution to improve uptime, maintenance windows and scalability.
Cashpoint migrated to MySQL (MySQL Enterprise Gold Unlimited and MySQL Cluster) using a multi‑node cluster with replication and standby nodes, plus MySQL Enterprise Monitor and Query Analyzer for proactive management. The move delivered major gains in availability, performance and reduced administrative overhead, enabling online maintenance without downtime and training/support for a smooth transition — and produced roughly €490,000 per year in savings (≈€250k license, €150k servers, €90k labor), roughly half a million euros annually.
