A MySQL Case Study
Bredbandsbolaget (B2) is one of Sweden’s largest broadband providers, serving over 600,000 customers with converged Ethernet and fiber services including broadband, VoIP and TV. Rapid growth exposed limits in a conventional, replication-based database: hardware or software failures caused mass reconnections and IP requests that overloaded systems, created service interruptions, and made it difficult to add users and new services reliably.
B2 replaced its operations platform and its Nexus authentication with MySQL Cluster, a distributed, master‑master, self‑healing database that provides automatic sub‑second failover and no single point of failure. The change delivered continuous service with five‑nines availability, faster fault stabilization, lower development and maintenance effort, cost‑effective scalability (over 30,000 TPS at peak), and measurable improvements in customer satisfaction.
