A MySQL Case Study
Alcatel‑Lucent, a leader in fixed, mobile and converged broadband networking, faced the challenge of delivering IMS‑based converged services that unify contact lists, presence and multiple identities across devices and services. Their XDMS platform needed a database that could provide real‑time replication, low‑latency transactions, incremental scale to millions of users, geographic redundancy and strong security while keeping total cost of ownership low.
After benchmarking, Alcatel‑Lucent selected MySQL Cluster Carrier Grade Edition as the XDMS backend. The solution uses MySQL Cluster with in‑memory local replication, geographic synchronization, native NDB access and XML/XCAP support to handle high traffic (designed for tens of millions of users and ~1,000 TPS at peak), deliver five‑nines availability and integrate with existing HLR/HSS deployments. The result was a scalable, highly available, cost‑effective foundation that enables faster rollout of next‑generation converged services.
